The original turk, you will recall, was an “automaton” chess player, actually operated by people who manipulated the gears and pulleys to make it appear as though it was playing the game on its own. In an age when computers actually are capable of high level chess, Alexandra Kosteniuk’s father had the not so crazy idea of giving the Turk another shot.
Here is his creation. It’s a robotic chess computer, capable of playing blitz with elite gm’s! This video is worth watching. My favorite moment is when kramnik reaches his hand out to offer the robot a draw and the robot leaps into action grabbing a piece. All I can say is… I know what I want for Christmas.
