In Girum Imus Nocte et Consumimur Igni

As many of you know, I have started studying tactics intensely according to the Michael de la Mazza method, and I am happy to report that I have completed a circle and am moving deeper into my errant mission of seven times through a single set of tactical problems. No question, I’m feeling stronger and seeing it in my blitz. I’m hoping the second time through will be a bit easier than the first. The title of the post is a latin palindrome by the way, which may be translated as “in circles we go into night and are consumed by fire.” Its dark message seems appropriate for our shared mission towards chess improvement through this hellish tactical training method.

Getting back to the subject of circles, fellow blogger “Blunderprone” has gained 130 Elo points in a single month of tournaments while doing tactics MDLM style. If anyone is still doubting the MDLM method, I ask them to read this post. For those of you who are curious, there is a large community of knights errant out there, such as Temposchlucker, Takchess, and Blue Devil Knight. To join us in our quest, simply follow the MDLM method outlined here, and in the manifesto “400 points in 400 days,” and ideally let us know how it goes. If you win the world open and cash in with a big prize, give your fellow knights a shout out! Ideally, I think we should aim to have a knight in each class section of the large tournament this summer in Philly. With a little luck and a lot of hard work we may be able to put up a convincing performance across the sections.
