The current President of the Marshall Chess Club, Stuart Chagrin, recently sent me the following game, which features a bishop sac, a queen sac, and my favorite tactic: The Windmill! Rather than tilting at windmills, which is generally what happens in my games, in this game the governor sac’s his queen to erect one- leading to a stylish mate.
The game is a smith morra gambit, a gambit that I generally decline by playing 3…d5 which transposes into a c3 Sicilian. However, in this game Daniel Vasserman instead chooses to push the pawn to d3, which allows white to develop rapidly as in the game.
In addition, he sent me the score for a game that I mentioned in this past post, which has now been updated.
