Monday Marshall U1600

For those of you who don’t get the reference, the image is taken from well known animator Mike Judge’s break-out 1999 comedy “Office Space.” Not to compare the following game with the film’s dreary portrayal of the main character’s foibles as a late 90’s cubicle dweller who decides to dabble in bank and wire fraud, but something about Mondays does seem to resonate nonetheless. If memory serves me correctly, the lovely redhead in the background of this snapshot is barking “Looks like someone has a case of the Mondays” into the ear of Peter Gibbins, a disgruntled programmer at “Initech” and our main character in the film.

In any case, one of the Marshall Chess Club’s most active players, Robert Cherubin, did battle with our own Cameron Hull (the top seed in this event), who annotated the following game. Cameron managed to escape with a win despite missing a couple critical ideas. You can see the updated standings and follow Cameron’s progress in this tournament here. as he represents BK64! in style.
