Some nice games here. Just posting some comments as they occur to me.

In Adam Serota - Cameron, did White miss a win with 19. Rxh6? I don't see a defense for black there. I think 18. ... f5 might have been better than h6.

Thoughts?

Hey Simon! Your website looks great man! I hope you get a ton of students who get sucked in by your awesome articles. You should put up your games from the FIDE monday- even if there isn't much to say I'd be curious to see them.
Cheers!

haha! yes dood. I had a feeling you were the kind of guy who had google alerts out on his own name and would find this sooner or later. I debated lending you that iphone charger for fear you would rip it up like you did that scorebook. When you fill out your survey for the marshall remember to add that the nice guy Greg on the staff deserves a raise for his consistent customer service that goes above and beyond what's expected. Cheers-

Excellent article, Simon. :)

It really gives me a lot of insight into your own personal chess philosophy and application.

And I also thought that you did a great job of keeping your opinions as balanced as possible; while sticking to the fundamentals of the game.

btw: Although your article was a bit long, it certainly wasn't laborious to read. Keep it up!! - I'm looking forward to your next one.

So, Simon, you are on the way to becoming a chess author now. Congrats!

I want the first copy of your book, signed, got it? lol

Now back to your game analysis. Great job, buddy!! :)
- Your simple break-down of how the game went and should have gone, is quite a refresher, in terms of the fundamentals of chess play.

As goes your observations:
"...Magnus probably would see a sequence of computer moves leading straight to checkmate instead." - Very humorous and accurate point.

Another thing that I wanted to bring up here, before moving on, is this variation:
The g-pawn is stopped, but it’s mate in 5 for Black now! 66... Kg3 67. c5 h5 68. c6 h4 69. c7 h3 70. c8=Q h2#
It's play continuation like this, that really keeps this game engaging for chess fans. - I mean look at the timing and position that allows black to get away with white's Queen-ing pawn.

And now back to the actual game, it's really interesting that still, even at the GM level of competitive chess play, how easily it is to forget chess basics (especially, with 'time pressure', right?).

Also, I liked the way your approach is to covering chess news via your 'thinking out loud' method. - Now I can literally read what's on your mind. lol

Well, anyway, that is my spiel, in response to your spiel. I look forward to more of your... spiel on chess... on video, Backyard Professional Style.

"Why must I lose to this idiot?!" – Aaron Nimzowitsch lol :)

Good game!

Asa can still hold his own for a while!

I think Rd8+ wins the piece on b7, because Rf8, Rxf8+, Kxf8, Rxb7, no?
